Autumn Driving Tips (from the best drivers in the world)

Here at Limo Livery, we retain the best, most safest drivers in the world. Here they share their top tips on how to drive safe this fall, while still enjoying the best of our New Orleans flavors.

Autumn in New Orleans is a beautiful sight. There are an abundance of colors, fall festivals and free events in the area to keep you outdoors. Part of “getting there” means having to “drive there” a good portion of the time. Having a company of seasoned drivers that know the area and are well honed drivers, there are some precautions we ask you to be aware of if you are taking a drive yourself out amongst the falling leaves.  Of course, should you prefer to have one of our excellent drivers escort you, feel free to give us a call!

Stay Focused on the Road

The world is your distraction if you are in the drivers seat. This time of year brings with it an influx of new visuals to keep you otherwise engaged from your task at hand. Be it the color changing leaves, decorations or events that you pass by…do your best to pay attention to the road. Many accidents are caused by distracted drivers and could be easily avoided.

Be Careful of Wet Slippery Leaves

That scenic ride through the park is one you should take by all means, but be aware of the road conditions you are driving on. Wet leaves can be as slippery as driving on ice.

Be Cautious of the Fog

The weather this time of year lends itself to being very foggy at certain times of the day. Keeping you headlights on a low beam will make it easier to navigate through.

Always Keep a Safety Kit in Your Car

Always be prepared for the inevitable to happen. A safety kit left in the car should include: a flashlight, flares and a first-aid kit, jumper cables, extra washer fluid, nonperishable food, a jug of water, and a few basic tools such as wrenches, a ratchet/socket set, screwdrivers, and pliers.

Animals in the Road

Now is a time for bulking up and storing for many of our wild  friends. They don’t abide by traffic lights but we do. Take your time and keep a safe distance between cars lest one of these furry (or slimey) friends decide to cross your path unexpectedly.

Be Mindful of Pedestrian Traffic

Not only is school now in session, but Halloween is almost upon us. New Orleans is the place to be for many revelers. Mind your speed limits and be aware of the pedestrian traffic around you at all times.

We hope you enjoy your Autumn and wish you a safe driving season.

How to Do New Orleans Like a Native!

shutterstock_45992485Every city has their secret spots, often undiscovered by the average visitor.  But knowing where the natives of each city goes for the best of the best is like finding the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

Here at Limo Livery, our reservations staff and chauffeurs have extensive knowledge of where the best places are for everything from meetings to burgers, music to beingets, because they live here.

Are you a total foodie?  We can plan a best of New Orleans food tour, customized to your gourmet tastes and guide you the entire way.  Our best kept secret spot for mouth watering ice cream is the Creole Creamery. Their flavors are constantly rotating, but just to give you an idea of their creative flavor inventions, consider the genius of Candied Bacon & Cinnamon, the absurdity of Gorgonzola & Toasted Walnut, and the seasonal brilliance of Mexican Hot Chocolate, which packs a cayenne-peppery punch in a frigid guise. Their motta is easy to follow: “Eat ice cream. Be happy.”

Love great music? New Orleans has some of the best blues, jazz and zydeco music in the world, and we can get you to and from some of the best places to hear and enjoy it!

Want one of our best secret spots for good food AND good music?  On Monday nights, THE best place for both is the Hi Ho Lounge for not only for the $1 red beans and rice, but also for a massive jam session with guitars, banjos, mandolins and a chorus of voices that comprise the weekly Bluegrass Night.

So give our staff a call and we’ll help you maximize your visit here in the best city in the world!  Laissez le bon temps roulez (let the good times roll) as we say here in New Orleans!

We Will Never Forget…

On this, the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on our great country on 9-11-01, we at Limo Livery wanted to honor and remember both those who perished on this day, and those who perished fighting the war on terror in our military, because of this attack.

Whether you lost someone, knew someone who lost someone, or didn’t even know someone who perished because of this great tragedy in our nation, we were ALL affected by this day. Despite the horrific circumstances, our country was united in grief and resolve and all those lost will forever be found in our hearts.

2010 Allstate America’s Best Drivers Report

The 2010 “Allstate America’s Best Drivers Report”, which for some reason does not include Massachusetts, is now available on line on the Allstate website. When looking at the national list of 193 cities, both large and small, New Orleans and Baton Rouge’s numbers weren’t great. New Orleans ranked 156 and Baton Rouge ranked 159. Certainly much better than Washington, DC which holds the 193rd position – aka last -on the list. Where are the safest cities to drive?

The Top Ten

For the second time in the report’s seven-year history, Fort Collins was revealed as the safest driving city.

Additional “Road” Scholars

Drivers in U.S. cities with populations of one million-plus are more likely than the national average to experience a collision. For the seventh year in a row, motorists in Phoenix topped the list in this category, making them the safest big city commuters.

Limousine Livery’s Chauffeurs and Drivers participate in extensive and ongoing training programs that help keep our passengers safe, which is an important consideration when choosing your New Orleans or Baton Rouge ground transportation, airport transfers, or special event.

Allstate and Limousine Livery offer the following safe driving tips that you should keep in mind every time you get behind the wheel of a car:

  • Minimize distractions – Engaging in any other activity while driving – talking on your cell phone, text messaging, changing a radio station, putting on makeup – is a distraction.
  • Be aware of road conditions – Ice, snow, fog, rain – all of these weather conditions require extra caution and slower speeds.
  • Leave a safe distance between your car and others around you – Maintain at least one car length space between your car and the vehicle in front of you for every 10 miles per hour of speed.
  • Steer clear of road rage – Reduce stress on the road by allowing plenty of time for travel, planning your route in advance, and altering your schedule or route to avoid congested roads. Remember not to challenge aggressive drivers and stay as far away from them as possible.
  • Maintenance matters – Ultimately, safety also depends on the maintenance of your car. Ensure that your car brakes, exhaust system, tires, lights, battery and hoses are in good working order.
